Using Houzz software:
Contemporary, cottage, craftsman, French provincial – these terms may mean different things to different people. The best way to communicate is through photographs. We encourage our clients to create a scrapbook of photos that appeal to them. A good source for these is the website www.houzz.com along with clippings from home magazines. Organize them by room and exterior look. The more prepared and organized, the better the design professional will understand the direction of the design and the more cost-effective the use of the designers time.
Initial concepts may be roughly done by hand. These sketchy representations capture the initial statement of the lifestyle quickly and inexpensively. Every designer has their own process. Early drawings, though not adequate for actual bids, will provide a basis for preliminary budgeting based on completed construction projects and discussions with the clients regarding amenities, features, and finishes.
After perfecting the conceptual floorplans, the process expands to the exterior elevations and roof that will wrap the layouts. These are all done on the computer in the form of CAD drawings.
Once the floorplans and elevations are complete, they are review by our engineers for structural integrity and energy efficiency.
